ISC Receives National Excellence in Construction Award From ABC for NextEra Restoration Project
ISC Constructors today announced the company has earned a national Excellence in Construction® Pyramid Award for work on NextEra’s Plant Crist in Pensacola, Florida. The EIC awards are the construction industry’s leading national competition that honors general and specialty contractors for world-class, safe and innovative construction projects from across the nation.
Plant Crist is a 70+ year-old steam power that was left inoperable from Hurricane Sally in September, 2020. With the storms passing, NextEra found its facility submerged in 30 feet of salt water and river silt. In partnership with ControlWorx, ISC provided a highly skilled emergency response team to restore the facility before the end of 2020. This included cleaning and salvaging old components as well as partnering with multiple vendors to procure replacement equipment at the plant. Despite the strenuous schedule and many unique safety hazards, ISC accomplished the project ahead of schedule, under budget, and with zero safety incidents including zero positive COVID-19 cases.
“ISC is once again honored to receive national recognition for exceptional reliability and leadership on complex construction projects,” said Jerry Rispone, Co-Owner and CEO of ISC Constructors. “The ISC team was able to leverage our best-in-class workforce to mobilize quickly, identify and address challenges in a collaborative manner, ultimately bringing the facility back on line without incident.”
“For over 30 years, ABC has been honored to award outstanding construction projects like NextEra Plant Crist Restoration by ISC Constructors,” said 2022 National Chair of the ABC Board of Directors Stephanie Schmidt, president, Poole Anderson Construction, State College, Pennsylvania. “Through hard work on this project, ISC Constructors shows the value of teamwork, overcoming challenges and creativity on the jobsite.”
The EIC award honors all construction team members, including the contractor, owner, architect and engineer. The winning projects are judged on complexity, attractiveness, unique challenges overcome, completion time, workmanship, innovation and safety.
A panel of industry experts served as the competition’s judges. This year’s judges included representatives from the Smithsonian Facilities Construction Division, Construction Management Association of America, Engineering News-Record, Design-Build Institute of America, University Research Institute and various construction-related firms nationwide.
